biofilter:
The technology combines
biodegradation and absorption in one system. A water
scrubber is packed with microorganisms that live within a
fixed bed of low volume, high surface area. The
microorganism in the biofilm uptake the H2S as
part of their respective metabolic pathway. Several species
of microorganisms can oxdize H2S to form odorless
sulfuric acid. A few species of the genus Thiobacilus
are capable of oxdizing H2S at low pH.
